Barry (Williams) you should have many, not to mention O'Neil and Wayne and Micheal (H) with that first boys club camp to Portland. Who remember the bun from Kong's bakery that Shanty (Leroy) bought for camp in St Mary. They were as hard as nail - even when we tried to give them away for free to the campers they would not eat! Ray (Wynter) you are one of the original leader at carmel camp - some stories PLEASE! Come on Share, share ,share,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,those stories - I know they are many of you just bursting to share. Anyway have to run.... its almost 1 a.m. and I have an early morning.

Carmel Camp Memories

From Joan Tucker
Hey Guys,
I remember a not so pleasant camp memory for a couple of us anyway. It might explain the loud laughter and screams that camper hear coming from the kitchen from the kitchen during what should have been a very serious moment of the weekend. I think that I can speak freely because is my embarrassing moment and to some degree Mikey Harty. It was Holmwood Tech, not 1976, one of the later trips, I think it was the last one we did. On Sunday the last and greatest night of the weekend, it was just after dinner when the counselors served the campers and then cleaned cleared the table. The irony was that we did the best clean up job in my estimation. Mickey, Donna T., Vernon Williams and your truly were in the kitchen getting ready to eat when we realized that the drink (the precious Carmel drink) was finished. We were so disappointed when a huge jug of drink appeared out of nowhere. Of course, Mickey poured me a small amount and kept the rest for himself. Strange enough Vernon and Donna T. was not drinking any. Mickey and I were so happy that we took huge gulps. Then, Vernon started laughing and told us that we were drinking the mouth water drinks that he and his accomplice had collected and when they cleared the table. Well, I tried to bring it up but it was too deep to return. Vernon if you are out there, I don't hold a grudge. My question is why would someone (a counselor) on the last night of camp the most spiritual of nights? Lots of issues going on I guess. I am still waiting for the spiritual benefit from this one.
So, there is one of my embarrassing camp story. I am sure you all have yours.

Carmel Camp Memories

Remember When.....

From Flo McCalla
Hi Guys,
I know this e-mail is long - but you have not heard from me in such a long time I know you will forgive me - thanks! Well, today those of us living in the USA are off from our usual schedules (work/school), because it is Memorial day. Last night some of us in the South Florida area got together at Joy's house to enjoy some good food and nuff fellowship. We had a good time and Albert (the cameraman) showed us his collection of tapes including his trip to Haiti and highlights of Carmel camp 2004. We saw a beautiful set of young persons from the Carmel community - most of us present, did not recognize 90% of these faces. But they were sure having a good time - the dance competition was very entertaining - I am sure the "moves" I saw was not just learned at camp. We have come a long way - a dance competition at camp! They were all doing 'pan de riva' - Ho to be that young again!
We started sharing stories about Carmel as we always do when 2 or more Carmelite are in the same place. Barry, we had the share the one about "On a cold winter's morning.......that infamous song written and performed by a sister at one of the services at Carmel. I mentioned you Barrybecause you tell that story best. As we watched Dully's son(Andrew) singing to his date at the camp banquet, we could not help but share the story about Freddie Davis - and why all banquets were banned from Carmel camp when his potential turned down his offer of escorting her to the banquet (know anything about that Melodie?). As a result he did not eat for thelast 2 days of camp. So many stories too little space.

Carmel Camp Memories...Camp Bogle

From Joan Tucker
Flo,
Talking about camp stories I would love to here some memories from Camp Bogle. I remember a few but I don't think they are mine to tell because all of us perceive things differently. I remember that a group of us girls stayed in a tent that collapsed in the rain and have vague memories of taking showers in a bathroom without doors/windows. What year was that again...Ray, Jasper, Barry, Leroy help me here cant seem to recall. I also remember protest, crying the lights going out (very traumatic). I think everyone was unsure about their eternal destiny nailed it down that weekend. It would be good to hear the other stories. Donna T, Pam, Nola, I think you were all there what do you remember?
Love

NewsFlash!! Not as young as one time....but still Young!!

From Barry Williams

Hi JC and all my Friends,

Thanks to your prayers and advice, Andre' says he MASHED UP the Path & Micro B exam. He has his Orals in the same subjects on May 4th so let's do it again.

Now I need some clarification from Dr. Daddy Grant. As you may know, I boil my Chineyroot,Sarsaparilla and Blackjoint early each morning so that having drunken this concoction I will be like the aforementioned "EB" ( Please see my most recent correspondence for the translation of "EB")

Now Doc old chap, I was elated at your mention of tuna leaf, leaf of life, scirosee, carrot juice, washout herb, manish water and brown soap. Such was my elation that when my usual concoction came to a boil I gleefully added the aforementioned items 1,2,3,and 5. You see though I know you as a holy man of God and excellent doc, I couldn't quite figure what proportion of washout herb and brown soap to add to my brew, neither could I see the possible virtue. I figured you might have "misprescribed" or you might have had some ulterior motive in prescribing those two. Alas, the worst have happened ! ! ! ! On the addition of your prescription, my usually "pleasant- smelling brew" developed such an "odourifiousness"(that's Bro. Rich's word) and started sputtering and bubbling so violently that I had to turn the stove off and leave it to cool. Pinching my nose so I wouldn't be knocked out my the smell, I valiantly sprang back into the kitchen intent on having my new brew, designed, to fix my eyes and help me in my quest to continue being an "EB".

Woe of woes, apart from the thing tasting like poison it felt like gravel going down my throat and within ten minutes, I had to bolt for the bathroom where I spent the next 1 1/2 hours washed in cold sweat

Now Doc, do you think that one pound of each of the dry ingredients ( read bushes & herbs) and one quart of that there manish water was a tad too much ?, - the brew did seem unusually black in colour when I drank it. What about the brown soap and herb tea, will it fix my eyes permanently?

Please answer soon as Andre' has little or no knowledge of your HERBAL REMEDIAL SUGGGESTIONS.. He thinks you are trying to help me lose weight. I don't know what the problem is with you doctors why you always differ in your diagnoses. To be frank doc, I am more than a bit confused and pressured, as the smell of the brew woke up Melodie who started crying uncontrollably when she saw how YOUR recommendation stained her brand new pot beyond measure. Don't worry I didn't tell her it was your fault.....didn't have the strength..... THANX TO YOU. Unfortunately now, I'll have to take a break from "everything." What do you have to say for yourself ?

Write soon y'all,
Barry
