Carmel Camp Memories

From Joan Tucker
Hey Guys,
I remember a not so pleasant camp memory for a couple of us anyway. It might explain the loud laughter and screams that camper hear coming from the kitchen from the kitchen during what should have been a very serious moment of the weekend. I think that I can speak freely because is my embarrassing moment and to some degree Mikey Harty. It was Holmwood Tech, not 1976, one of the later trips, I think it was the last one we did. On Sunday the last and greatest night of the weekend, it was just after dinner when the counselors served the campers and then cleaned cleared the table. The irony was that we did the best clean up job in my estimation. Mickey, Donna T., Vernon Williams and your truly were in the kitchen getting ready to eat when we realized that the drink (the precious Carmel drink) was finished. We were so disappointed when a huge jug of drink appeared out of nowhere. Of course, Mickey poured me a small amount and kept the rest for himself. Strange enough Vernon and Donna T. was not drinking any. Mickey and I were so happy that we took huge gulps. Then, Vernon started laughing and told us that we were drinking the mouth water drinks that he and his accomplice had collected and when they cleared the table. Well, I tried to bring it up but it was too deep to return. Vernon if you are out there, I don't hold a grudge. My question is why would someone (a counselor) on the last night of camp the most spiritual of nights? Lots of issues going on I guess. I am still waiting for the spiritual benefit from this one.
So, there is one of my embarrassing camp story. I am sure you all have yours.
Joan

  1. Flo,
I just double check with Mikey and he has confirmed that Donna T was the one who had the drink not him and that as far as his memory serves him it was "not intentional".
Say,You guys remember those wonderful songs written by Garnett Barracks? I can hear one of my favourites right now "My Lord and I"
Words to MY LORD AND I
    Walking, talking telling about
    Singing songs of love
You may believe I'm all alone, but it's my Lord and I... I...,
yes it's my Lord and I.
He has been everything to me
He is the one who died to set me free
    the same man from Galilee,
He's all the world to me.

    Praying, sharing
    telling about Him
    I'm in a happy mood,
The love we share is truly real, my Lord and I.., I..
Yes it my Lord and I

    He is my Saviour,
    My Lord and my King
    He is my everything
we walk together hand in hand
    my Lord and I..., I...,
Yes it's my Lord and I.
It is not 100% accurate but most of the words are correct.

Thanks for the reminder....just the other day I found myself singing one of Garnet's song.
"We honor you lord and there're so many things to say; There're so many things you do for us from day to day"...etc.All Garnet's songs are powerful personal testimonies that causes the
singer to just worship. Big ups to Garnet....God, continue to bless him, he and all his family members...Selah.

    Joan,
Are you sure Donna T did not have some of that drink? - I know of that story and I was always under the impression that Donna had a
large glass of that drink. I always thought that this was all an accident - the left over drink was poured into one container to be
dumped but unfortunately you guys (did not know you were involved)thought it was 'good' drink. Donna and I always laugh about this.
Glen, your memories go all the way back to the very first camp -which many of us did not have the privilege of attending because we may not have been at Carmel at that time. I am happy you are not like Wayne who tried to suggest in his email that he was 'too young' to have memories of earlier camps. I ran into him at lunch a few days ago and asked him about it and would you believe that the 'ole man' insisted that he was too young to know these things.
    Dream on Wayne!
A few of you have written to ask who is Claudette Winston - thats Yvonne Isaacs - Pam and Danny's sister. Good to hear from you
Yvonne. I am happy to say I am here in warm Florida and not there with you in the cold.

Keep those memories flowing folks. I am saving these to be placed on our website. Speaking of website - David I have been holding my
breath waiting to hear from you - I am dying here ....help!.....help!
Take care and have a great week-end.
    Love Flo
